How to Be Part of the Pro-age Revolution
How to Be Part of the
Pro-age Revolution
Women like us are showing the world that we are beautiful at every age and every stage of life.
As we move into the Pro-age Revolution’s 10th year, we want to ensure this movement keeps growing—so we can continue to empower pro-age women for generations to come.
We want women to look and feel beautiful just as they are… and love their lives a little more with each passing year. This is the exact opposite of the “anti-aging” messages we hear every day.
We want to encourage all women to let go of anti-aging stereotypes and enjoy every decade of their lives. That’s a major culture shift—and a significant undertaking.
We can’t do it alone.
We need your help to keep the momentum going.
Through our own experiences, hearing your stories and seeing your living example, we’ve gathered a few ways to help build momentum in the Pro-age Revolution.
Whether you’re new to the Pro-age Revolution or just looking for new ways to spread the pro-age message, here are a few ideas…
1. Stay positive.
Positive messages and people move us so much more than negative ones.
We’re naturally drawn to positive and uplifting messages and people. They give us energy and hope. That’s why we’re PRO-age.
When you’re confronted with ageism, respond with your own pro-age insight. Your lived experience will be far more impactful than any negative stereotypes could ever be.
Being a positive voice in the movement helps your voice be heard and also attracts others who are positive and uplifting.
2. Challenge implicit biases.
When you look in the mirror, do you automatically focus on your less-than-favorite features? For example, do you stress about fine lines before you notice your beautiful eyes? Automatic responses like these often spring from implicit biases.
These under-the-radar beliefs can come from early or persistent messages we receive about aging. You might even have implicit biases that directly contradict your conscious thoughts and beliefs.
Try to counter implicit biases whenever possible. If you notice patterns in when or how your biases appear, plan ahead to thwart them.
For example, if you notice that negative thoughts slip in most often in front of the mirror, try posting pro-age affirmations on your bathroom mirror. Or verbally appreciate your skin, hair, eyes, face and other favorite features daily.
Practices like these can help transform automatic responses to positive, pro-age messages.
3. Talk with people of all ages.
One way to disrupt negative stereotypes around aging is to be a shining example of pro-age vibrance for others.
Seek out opportunities to talk with or be around people of all ages, either in person or virtually. Your example may influence family, friends and even new people you meet for years to come.
Or, look for the beauty in those who are further along in their journey and consider how life will bring you MORE as you age.
You can find pro-age women of all ages on our blog, our Facebook page, among our Boom Ambassadors and during our Boom Ladies’ Nights sharing perspectives and encouraging stories.
4. Enjoy your life.
We believe the single best way to grow the Pro-age Revolution is to enjoy your life fully.
Find your passion and inspiration and live a full and satisfying life that contradicts the myths in our culture’s views on aging.
Take pleasure in your age knowing that each year of life brings you more, not less.
Likewise, take pleasure in any signs of aging you experience—from fine lines and wrinkles to silver hair—as proof of a life well-lived.
The greatest statement you can make to drown out negative stereotypes and messages around aging is to live fully, freely and joyfully at every age.
Your example will inspire others to live that way too.
5. Share your pro-age story.
Those are a few of our suggestions on how to grow the Pro-age Revolution. But we want to know YOUR thoughts.
Telling your pro-age story can be a powerful testimonial of what’s possible as we age.
You can start by telling your story right here in the comments or on our Facebook page. A few questions to help...
To each and every one of you—thank you for being pro-age, for sharing your knowledge, experience and beauty with us and for being positive, inspiring pro-age role models. We appreciate you!
