Exquisite Skin
Without the Expense
Do you value your skin?
This resilient organ has the incredibly important job of protecting your insides from injury and infection. Your skin is also often your most visible physical feature.
There’s no doubt your skin is priceless—but that doesn’t mean your skincare has to be.
While we believe in the power of high-quality cleansers, all-natural moisturizers and luxurious serums to keep your skin dewy and beautiful, your skin can be healthy and strong even if you don’t spend a lot on skincare.
In fact, there are many ways to care for your skin without opening your wallet.
Below, we share three no-cost or low-cost tips for beautiful skin at every age.
1. Protect your skin from the sun.
Possibly the best thing you can do for your skin is to protect it from damaging UV rays.
UV rays can cause skin discoloration and loss of collagen, elasticity and moisture. The sun can also induce deeper changes to your skin that can affect your overall health.
While sunscreen is one way to stay protected, you can also keep your skin safe by avoiding sun exposure—either by sticking to the shade or by keeping your skin covered with loose, long sleeve shirts, pants and hats.
In particular, experts say to avoid the sun during the most intense UV hours of the day, from 10 AM to 2 PM.
2. Let gravity do the work.
As we age, our circulatory system becomes less efficient. That can result in puffy skin, particularly on our faces and under our eyes.
This tends to be worse in the morning when you first wake up because lying down hinders circulation even more.
Sleeping slightly inclined at night may help reduce morning puffiness in your face and around your eyes.
To try it out, layer two or more pillows beneath your head to keep it slightly above your heart. Alternatively, place blocks beneath the head of the bed to create an incline.
This small change could make a big difference for your skin in the morning.
3. Keep it clean.
Keeping your skin clean is key to keeping your skin healthy and strong.
One inexpensive way to keep your skin clean is to frequently wash everything that touches your face, including makeup brushes and sponges, your hands and your pillowcase.
Keeping your makeup brushes and sponges clean prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi that can infect your skin. At least twice a week, wash your brushes and sponges with shampoo and water or a cleanser meant for this purpose and allow them to air dry.
Wash your hands before applying makeup or moisturizers—and before scooping into any tubs or containers with your fingers.
This will help keep your cosmetics and moisturizers free of harmful contaminants that can transfer back to your skin.
Last, washing your pillowcase can help prevent a buildup of oil, dirt, sweat and bacteria that can cause breakouts or inflammation. Especially if you have oily skin or sleep on your side or stomach, switch out your pillowcase about twice a week.
Good skincare doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
We hope these low- and no-cost tips will help your skin look and feel beautiful throughout every year of your life.
