Through the years, Joy has gone through many different phases with her hair. But now, at 66, she’s loving her natural silver.

I have done interesting things with my hair. I go through phases with my hair. This is what I decided to go. I decided to keep it natural.

Most of the time my hair has been natural. I had dreadlocks for a long time all the way down my back. And then when I cut off the dreadlocks, I had a little Afro, and then I decided I didn't want to straighten my hair anymore. I had straightened it before I had dreadlocks and was straightened for a while.

It's always been super, super thick.

My mother's hair is not like this. And I remember as a child she was like, "Oh, what am I gonna do with this child's hair?" Because I have so much of it.

Every now and then I'll look at it, it's such a nice color of gray. I like it. I really, really like it.
