Meet Donna: White Hair Is White Light

For years, Donna used low-lighting to darken her white hair. Then one day, her stylist begged her to stop. In her words, she told Donna her white hair was “white light.”

I went through this phase of low-lighting my hair with dark tones, low-lighting my gray hair.

I had this wonderful woman who did this work for me. And she cut my hair, and she told me stories about her life. And I kind of do therapy with her and it was a whole big relationship.

She starts saying, "Maybe you should let go of those lowlights." And I go, "Maybe." And then the next time she said, "How about trying that?" I go, "Maybe. I'll think about it."

And one day she stops.

She stands there looking at the mirror, puts her hand on my shoulder and says, "Look. I make my money coloring your hair and I am begging you to stop. You have white light around your head with this white hair. And that's what you're supposed to be doing.”

I actually have chills as I'm saying it because I had never really gotten until that moment about the white light. That white hair is white light.

I cut my own hair and it just sparkles. And I am happier with my hair than I've ever been.
