Love Your Dyed Hair? That's Pro-age Too
At BOOM!, we talk a lot about silver hair.
That’s because many women in our pro-age community are sharing the experience of embracing their silver hair.
But having silver hair is not required to adopt a pro-age attitude.
Pro-age is a state of mind, not a hair color. It’s about loving yourself at every stage of life and finding your own unique beauty at every age. It’s about embracing yourself and all the so-called “flaws” that come with age.
Whether your hair is silver, salt-and-pepper, dyed or thinning… you have your own unique beauty that is real and true.
To remind us all, we’re sharing three reasons to love your dyed hair—and yourself.
1. Dyeing your hair can be fun.
Our founder, Cindy Joseph, was a big proponent of silver hair… but she wasn’t opposed to dye either.
Cindy encouraged us to examine our motives for changing our appearance, whether that was dyeing our hair or wearing foundation. She inspired us to enjoy ourselves and have fun, rather than be motivated by fear that we need to hide or cover up what we look like.
That’s because being pro-age is about taking control of your life and enjoying every phase and age.
Many women dye their hair because they enjoy the results or they have fun experimenting with different colors. If that’s you, there is no reason to stop. Dyeing your hair because you enjoy it is just as pro-age as growing out your silver hair because it’s about doing what you love.
2. Hair care is self-care.
Do you enjoy the time spent coloring your hair or getting your hair done? For many women, hair care and beauty appointments are a chance to get away, relax and be pampered.
Taking time to rest and destress is important for your overall health and well-being. Having someone else attend to your hair and spend time on you can feel lovely and pleasurable.
Even when you color your own hair at home, dedicating that time to yourself can help you feel loved and cared for.
If your hair-care time is also self-care time, that’s a great reason to continue doing it.

3. Choosing a bold hair color can be empowering.
Coloring your hair can be empowering, particularly if you’re going for a fun, exciting color that makes a statement about who you are.
These days, there are lots of options for bold hair colors you can even apply at home. Non-permanent color-depositing conditioners come in a range of fun colors, from blue and green to pink and rose-gold.
For a fun day of color without the lasting effects of dye, try a color styling wax that washes out with shampoo.
Whatever hair color you choose, if having fun is your goal, you’re sure to succeed.
When you celebrate yourself and your choices, the world celebrates with you.
What do you think? Have you wondered if coloring your hair was pro-age? How do you feel about it now?
