“Slow Living” Guide to Boom and Life from Mary Kingsley
Mary Kingsley is proof thatslowing down doesn’t have to mean doing less.
Our newest Boom Ambassador is in her 60s. She is a published author, podcaster and a retreat leader. In 2016, Mary and her daughter, Emma, founded Lady Farmer, an online community and sustainable lifestyle brand.
Together, they teach “slow living”—a lifestyle that encourages slowing down to make conscious choices about how you spend your money, time and ultimately, your life.
Mary helps others to create sustainable lifestyles through writing, teaching and co-hosting "The Good Dirt Podcast."Her new book, The Lady Farmer Guide to Slow Living was released in March.
Watch the video below for Mary’s thoughts on why she loves Boom and her tips on letting life lead you where it may.
Simple Products
Mary loves Boom because our products and mission line up with what she believes is important. She says, “These products really, really fit my values and my lifestyle because they’re simple. I know what it’s made of. I know who made it.”
Boom products are also made with sustainability in mind—and that’s a topic that’s near and dear to Mary’s heart and work.
Here at Boom,we strive for sustainability in everything we do, from the products we make to the ingredients we source to the packaging and promotional materials we use.
That means we consider the earth, its resources and people in every decision and at every step along the way.
Simplicity is Key
Mary is a big fan of the “less-is-more,” pro-age mission we’re bringing to the world.
She loves Boom because “it’s easy to use and useful to me. And I don’t need much. I’m all about simplicity.”
Mary uses Boom to ensure her skin is soft and hydrated. Then she applies a bit of Boomstick Color to her lips and cheeks to bring color to her face.
For Mary’s slow-living lifestyle, that’s exactly enough.
Mary’s Thoughts on Going with the Flow of Life
We often feel that there are milestones in life or boxes we have to check off in a specific order or by a certain age. College. Career. Marriage. Children. Retirement.
But Mary suggests forgetting all of that: “...don’t worry about your age, or where you’re supposed to be at this stage of your life or what you’re supposed to be doing. Just keep your heart open and keep your mind open and let it go. And you will find all these wonderful adventures still ahead for you for decades and decades to come.”
She believes that what life has in store for you is more wonderful and exciting than anything you could plan for yourself.
Mary’s still being surprised and delighted by what life brings her way. She says, “Here I am in my seventh decade, and I never imagined anything so fun and wonderful as what I’m living right now, and it’s just really wonderful.”
Mary, we think you’re wonderful.
And we’re curious—what do you think of “slow living?” What sustainable practices are you committed to?
