For many of us, the new year represents a fresh start. The new year is a new beginning and a great time to make changes we believe will benefit our lives going forward.

Often when we set resolutions, we’re setting goals for what we think we should do, rather than what we actually want to do. That can make it tough to keep them up months down the road.

When we set joyful resolutions that feel good, following through is natural and easy.

That’s why, if you plan to set resolutions this year, we suggest setting pro-age resolutions.

Pro-age resolutions help you embrace a lifestyle and mindset that celebrates aging and helps you love yourself and your body throughout every phase of life.

Pro-age resolutions are easy to keep because they feel good. They’re also all about simplicity, pleasure and appreciating your value.

Ready to set some pro-age goals for the year? Here are a few ideas to get you started…

1. Embrace your natural beauty

Modern beauty standards are incredibly unforgiving. That’s why we suggest embracing your own beauty standard—and your own beauty.

Resolve to find beauty in your own features this year, regardless of size, blemishes, scars, wrinkles or anything else you (or society) might have deemed “less than” in the past.

Over the years, we’ve shared many ways to expand your idea of beauty, embrace body positivity and find beauty in all sorts of places. Set a goal to try a different method each month until you begin to love yourself as you deserve.

2. Go out without makeup.

When we wear makeup every day, it’s easy to get used to how we look with it. Our natural beauty begins to look lackluster in comparison.

That’s why our founder, Cindy Joseph, suggested skipping makeup sometimes.

Cindy said, “I think it's so important to like this, however you look, right out of the shower. It's back to finding things good. When you find things good, they get better.”

If you wear makeup most of the time, try going without it a couple of times a month until you “find things good” with your natural beauty.

3. Simplify your routine.

Simplicity is one of the great joys of aging—and our Boom Ambassadors agree.

63-year-old Beth Dolan says, “I just don’t need much. I don’t want much. I think that’s one of the glories of going down the life path. You just realize: simplicity, efficiency, path of least resistance. But I still want to feel good.”

We suggest you begin by simplifying your beauty routine.

Choose multitasking cosmetics whenever possible and drop every step or product that doesn’t bring you joy, pleasure or feeling beautiful.

If that feels good—keep going.

4. Embrace pleasure.

Cindy told us her life changed when she began to seek pleasure instead of success.

She wrote, “Once I understood that I would enjoy life more and feel more connected to my true nature if I started living according to what pleasured me, everything I did became much easier. My life became more enjoyable by default.”

Resolving to seek pleasure in our pain-oriented society might not be as easy as it seems at first blush. Cindy’s advice? Practice.

“Practice breaking the habit of dwelling on complaints,” Cindy suggested, “and start paying attention to what pleasures you.”

5. Grow out your silver hair.

At BOOM!, we love silver hair. If you do too, this might be the year to embrace it.

Many women have told us how their lives got better after embracing their silver. Cindy considered her silver hair to be the “physical evidence of a lifetime of accomplishments.” It was also the impetus for her second act as a model.
